News Release: UW-La Crosse sets University Art Gallery Season

La Crosse, Wis. – Two exhibitions of artwork by UW-La Crosse alumni highlight the upcoming 2019-20 University Art Gallery Season.

The first alumni exhibit, “UWL Alumni Invitational,” runs Oct. 4-26 featuring alumni artwork in recognition of the UWL Alumni Association’s 50th anniversary. The other, “Changing Currents: The Art of Truman Lowe,” runs Jan. 31-Feb. 21 featuring the work of acclaimed Ho-Chunk artist and class of ’69 alumnus who died March 30, 2019.

The complete schedule includes:

Sept. 6-26 — “Equilibrium”

Highlighting work from Wisconsin artists who are also art educators.

Reception: 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21

Oct. 4-26 — “UWL Alumni Invitational”

UWL art graduates exhibit post-graduation work in honor of the UWL Alumni Association’s 50th Anniversary.

Reception: 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25

Nov. 1-15 — “Drawing the Future”

An expansive drawing exhibition curated by the Center for Afrofuturist Studies.

Reception: 4-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1

Nov. 22-Dec. 14 — “Senior Art Student Exhibition”

Graduating UWL senior art students present their capstone work.

Reception: 4-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22

Jan. 31-Feb. 21 — “Changing Currents: The Art of Truman Lowe”

An exhibition celebrating the life and work of UWL alumnus Truman Lowe, a native Wisconsin Ho-Chunk artist and educator.

Reception: 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31

Feb. 28-March 12 — “All-student Juried Exhibition”

UWL students from diverse disciplines exhibit juried artwork.

March 26-April 11 — “Wisconsin 3rd Congressional District High School Exhibition”

Local high school students celebrate art and creativity.

April 17-May 9 — “Senior Art Student Exhibition”

Graduating UWL senior art students present their capstone work.

Reception: 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 17

All University Art Gallery exhibitions and receptions are free and open to the public.
