UWL has over 200 student organizations to get involved with and they are all available to you with the click of a button. Each year, UWL hosts Involvement Fest for students to stop by and see what organizations might best suit them. However, not everyone is able to make it, which makes the My Orgs website the next best place to look.

With over 200 organizations, some are going to stand out while others don’t get as much attention. Organizations like sororities, fraternities, or even Habitat for Humanity are extremely well known and catch a lot of eyes.

Those bigger names might be more appealing to look at because of their recognition, but the other 100 plus organizations deserve some highlights of their own as well as your attention.

Active Minds is a great example. This organization “focuses on concentrating student voices to create a strong front on changing the conversation about mental health on college campuses” (uwlmyorgs.campuslabs.com). Anyone is welcome to join at any time, according to their My Orgs website.

“UWL Active Minds strives to create a happy and healthy college experience by sponsoring awareness campaigns and trying to remind the students of UWL to stress less and laugh more; our club’s moto” (uwlmyorgs.campuslabs.com).

Another organization to consider is the Optimist Club. “The mission of the Optimist club is to determine the needs of the young people in our community and to offer volunteer opportunities for students to get involved in in order to meet these needs” (uwlmyorgs.campuslabs.com).

According to their club description requirements for this organization include taking part in two volunteer events a semester and paying dues of $10/semester or $15/year. You don’t have to attend the meetings, but it is highly recommended that you do.

The Student Embassy is a new student organization this year with a very unique role on campus. Per their description on My Orgs, “The Student Embassy is a student run organization that offers opportunities for all on-campus residents to pursue their hobbies and interests with other residents”.

This organization is unique in that it is run by five students, yet every resident on campus has the opportunity to get involved. Links are a key feature of the Embassy, which are the replacement for Student Interest Groups.

Links are created by residents on campus and are visible to every other resident on campus. Using this format, students can get together and participate in events that are interests or hobbies shared by campus residents.

Student Embassy Representative Poet Yaj says, “The Embassy wants to let students on campus know that there are some really cool Links to join, and if you aren’t interested in the current Links then you can create one you’d like!”

If you are interested in any of these organization or want to see others, you can check out the UWL My Orgs page through this link: UWL My Orgs.
