The men’s and women’s University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Track & Field teams competed in the Midwest Elite Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and 15.
The meet took place at UW-Whitewater, with the men’s and women’s weight throw and 5000-meter on Friday and the rest of the events took place on Saturday.
On Friday, the meet began with the women’s weight throw. For the Eagles, Ella Pulls threw a season-best (SB) 16.11-meters (52-10.25). For the men, Logan Powers placed fifth with a throw of 17.43-meters (57-02.25).
On the track, Aidan Matthai placed second in the men’s 5000-meter, achieving an all-time personal record (PR) of 14:00.30 and placing 10th all-time in the 5K in National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA) Division 3.
Grant Matthai also ran an all-time PR and placed fifth. Matthai’s performance of 14:01.86 was good enough to land the 17th spot on the NCAA’s all-time list in the 5K. Adam Loenser finished behind Matthai, placing sixth and scoring four points.
In the women’s 5000-meter, six Eagles achieved a new lifetime PR, including Madelynn McIntire, who took victory in 17:11.01. The Eagles also had three of the top four finishers, with Brooklyn Luebke placing second and Lucy Duchac in fourth.
In the women’s shot put, Addy Moseler took fourth with a PR of 12.85-meters (42-02.00). For the men’s shot put, Ben Youngworth placed third, throwing 15.44-meters (50-08.00). In fourth, Spencer Prats threw an SB of 15.23-meters (49-11.75).
In the men’s long jump, Andrew Hermes placed sixth, with a jump of 6.59-meters (21-07.50). Rachel Halvorson placed fourth for the women with a PR of 5.53-meters (18-01.75). The Eagles also had Josie Blum and Jenna Miller score points in the long jump. Four Eagles including Halvorson achieved a PR and three achieved an SB in the event.
Samantha Barrett placed second in the women’s triple jump, scoring a mark of 11.85-meters (38-10.50). Mackenzie Kronberg, Maya Evans and Emily Blaskowski were also within scoring position for the Eagles. For the men’s triple jump, William Cady achieved an SB with a mark of 14.57-meters (47-09.75).
In the women’s high jump, Alexys Scheuerell placed fifth, jumping a height of 1.6-meters (5-03.00). Allison Anderson also achieved an SB of 1.55-meters (47-09.75).
In the Women’s Pole Vault, the Eagles had six athletes score points. Araceli De Leo Lopez led the team, placing third, with a height of 3.80m (12-05.50 ft). Maddy Habberstad vaulted 3.75-meters (12-03.50) and placed fourth.
Andrew Tumminaro vaulted an SB of 4.86-meters (15-11.25), placing second. JT Zell and Ashton Moody both vaulted 4.56-meters (14-11.50).
In the women’s mile, Lily Higgins placed fourth and ran a time of 5:07.80. Becca Immer placed fifth, running a time of 5:08.01 and achieving a PR. For the men, Aidan Manning placed 11th with a time of 4:20.97.
In the women’s 400-meter, Alli Thomas and Ashley Keleher placed third and fourth, each achieving a new PR of 58.81 and 59.17 seconds respectively.
Regan Scott achieved victory and a new PR in the women’s 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.87. Scheuerell and Audrey Braun also made the 60-meter hurdle final.
In the men’s 60-meter, Ryder Smith and Evan Maurud made the finals, running times of 6.94 and 7.01 to place fourth and sixth respectively. For the Women, Anika Reiland placed third and ran a new PR of 7.69. Reiland was joined in the final by Makenna Zak and Taylor Molling.
For the men’s 800-meter, Nico Castellanos placed third, with a time of 1:56.84. First-year Owen Layton took second in his heat, with a time of 1:59.28.
Three Eagles in the women’s 200-meter achieved an SB, including Reiland who placed first and Mckenna Sedlacek in third. For the men, Lyndon Hemmerich-Hartman ran a time of 22.64.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team of Anna Plautz, Macy Reybrock, Alli Thomas, and Morgan Jennings achieved a new SB with a time of 3:51.09.
The meet concluded with the men’s track & field team scoring 69 points. The women’s track & field team scored 152 points and placed second. The full results from the meet can be found on Athletic.net.
