This Halloween season, the Rivoli Arts District (RAD) is hosting an immersive art experience on the second floor of its downtown building. The event, titled, “The Uncanny Exhibit” features 13 rooms, each offering a distinct, Halloween-themed installation.
“The Uncanny Exhibit is similar to a haunted house, but it’s way more artsy and immersive,” said RAD Marketing & Outreach Specialist Aidan Schmidtknecht.
Each space was designed by a different RAD artist and includes interactive elements that invite visitors to explore and engage with the artwork. The exhibit incorporates a range of visual, auditory and tactile features intended to create a multisensory experience for attendees.
Some rooms invite visitors to participate directly, while others focus on creating an unsettling visual atmosphere. This entire exhibit encourages guests to slow down, observe closely and interact with the art in unexpected ways.
“You get to walk through all these creepy rooms that are completely unique but still give off that Halloween vibe that people love. It’s not about jump scares, it’s about the atmosphere and the weirdness that each room brings,” said Schmidtknecht.
The Uncanny Exhibit will be open Oct. 16 through Nov. 1. Visitors can attend Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The entrance to the exhibit is located in the alley on the left side of the Rivoli Theatre.
“If you’re a college student looking for something fun and different to do these next two weekends, you should definitely come check it out,” said Schmidtknecht.
The Rivoli Arts District occupies three renovated floors of creative space in downtown La Crosse. The facility includes 30 artist studios, an art workshop, and the Rivoli Theatre’s new event space.
It also houses the La Crosse Film Academy, which features a 2,000 square foot production studio, postproduction suite, equipment rental area and community gathering space.
The RAD is committed to providing accessible spaces for artists and creators, promoting connection and removing barriers to support working artists.
