Eagles Men’s Swimming & Diving continues to improve

The UW-La Crosse Men’s Swimming & Diving team fought hard in a pair of duals during the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall.
During these two matches, the Eagles won a sound victory over UW-Oshkosh with a point total of 118-63.  However, this same win did not transfer over against UW-Stevens Point, which ended with a loss of 113-130.  Overall, UW-L has now obtained a 3-2 record in duals this season, with a mark of 2-1 for WIAC.
During all of the action and excitement on Saturday, UW-L’s own Justin Bublitz scored an impressive total of 368.90 points in the one-meter, as well as an additional 361.15 in the three-meter versus both UW-O and UW-SP.  The Eagles’ own Tanner Folvag would come in second in both the one-meter and three-meter with scores of 320.55 and 312.20, respectively.
The Eagles also earned a win with the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Ryan Jessen, Jackson Uselman, Nicholas Brehmer and Erich Schnell with 3:12.70 versus both of their opponents.
UW-L also scored a victory against UW-O with the 400 medley relay containing Kade McGilvrary, Quinton Maydaniuk, Daniel Streater and Jessen.  They also managed to place second against UW-SP with 3:35.40.
In individual matches, Jessen managed to capture the 50 freestyle event with a time of 21.56 versus both of his opponents, while Stephen Hanko won the 200 I.M. with a total time of 2:00.96.  Hanko also landed a victory against UW-SP in the 200 backstroke event with a time of 1:57.69.  Finally, Brehmer managed to win the 200 freestyle against UW-O with a time of 1:46.97, while landing second against UW-SP.
UW-L’s Bryan Frosch won the 500 event with a time of 4:57.24, as well as the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:19.06 versus UW-O, while landing fourth against UW-SP.
UW-L was also lead to victory by Maydaniuk in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.70 against the Oshkosh Titans, while finishing fifth against the Stevens Point Pointers.  Charleton Skinner took the 200 butterfly event with a time of 2:04.92 against UW-O, which also landed him second place versus UW-SP; Skinner also landed second and third versus UW-O and UW-SP, respectively, in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:02.36.
The Eagles’ Frosch landed third in the 500 freestyle event with a time of 4:57.24 versus both of his opponents, while Hunter Burchfield was third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.99 and Erik Wickstrom finished fourth in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:02.67.
Schnell also managed to nail second place in the 100 freestyle event with a time of 48.13 versus UW-SP, as well as third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.82 versus both teams.  Caleb Cole made fourth place with a score of 1:49.13 and Garrett Runing made fifth with 1:49.43 in the 200 freestyle event against UW-SP.
UW-L will return once again on Saturday, Feb. 7, at UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
