Eagles, you’ve probably seen my face staring back at you from posters around campus—maybe a little too intensely. But I am not just a creepy photo that seems to make off-putting eye contact with you on your way to class. I am a student like you who cares about the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and the voices of more than 10,000 students who make our campus home.
My name is Avery Manthe, and I am a public administration and communications major with an emphasis in public advocacy. I am running for Student Association president because our campus should revolve around its students—not the other way around.
I’ve spent my time at UWL advocating for student voices—ensuring they aren’t simply heard but amplified. From advocating for the Prairie Springs Science Center Completion Project to local legislators on the Student Association Court to helping launch new student organizations as vice president of the Student Organizations Committee, I have worked to ensure students have the resources they need to thrive. Experiences like these have given me insight into what is working on campus—and what needs to change to best serve students.
This fall, we’ll be stepping into a year of transitions. With the launch of the Reimagine Plan and ongoing conversations around free speech on campus, we need a leader who understands how to work with university administration while standing firm for student interests. I am that leader. I’m prepared to take on these challenges and ensure that your concerns aren’t bypassed.
UWL deserves a president who listens, advocates and acts. I’m ready to do just that. On April 15, in your Outlook inbox, you will have the opportunity to cast your vote for Student Association leadership. So I ask you to vote for me on April 15 to ensure that our university has a student leader who will work alongside administration to advocate for you and your peers.
Talons Up,
Avery Manthe
