A look into January term activities in La Crosse

As finals begin to wrap up and students begin to head home for winter break, some of those who normally occupy the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s campus will be looking for activities or new hobbies to take up while their peers are away. Below are just a few of the activities that La Crosse has to offer.

To begin, there is the Rivoli Theater and Pizzeria located at 117 4th St. N La Crosse, WI. The Rivoli Theater is currently showing the following movies: Violent Night, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Gremlins, Kung Fu Panda, and Enter the Dragon. Additionally, the Rivoli Theater allows those interested in watching the Packers Game free admission. Regular ticket pricing is as follows:

  • Adult $5.75
  • Children ages 12 and under $3.75
  • Students/Military with ID $4.75
  • Seniors $4.75

The theater also has $2 Tuesdays that include a free small popcorn with every ticket purchase for everyone and with $3 Thursdays for students and faculty that include a free small popcorn with every ticket purchase. Upcoming movies can be found on their website under “Coming Soon” Aside from showing films, the Rivoli Theater serves pizzas that are made to order.

Those looking for winter sports activities can look towards Mount La Crosse. Since 1959, Mt. La Crosse has been a place for people of all ages and abilities to go and ski. According to the Mt. La Crosse website, the park, “offers food service, a complete ski shop, rental, and repair shop, and an award-winning bar, all close to the slopes and handy to parking.” Mt La Crosse also provides:

  • 18 slopes & trails
  • 516’ Vertical Drop
  • 5300’ run
  • Terrain Park

During regular in-season, the park is open Monday through Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to  7:00 p.m. All rental pricing can be found on the Mt. La Crosse website here.

If you are looking to shop, you might consider Dales Clothing located at 121 4th St. S. Dales Clothing provides both men’s and women’s clothing as well as a variety of La Crosse merch. There is also Drift Mercantile located at 211 Pearl Street. According to its website, Drift Mercantile is one of downtown La Crosse’s oldest commercial properties, occupying its site since 1874. Next to Drift Mercantile is The Pearl Ice Cream Parlor (The Pearl) located at 207 Pearl Street. The Pearl provides its customers with ice cream, sorbet, and confectionary items such as fudge, brittle, taffy, and more.
