With the semester more than halfway through, students at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse are hard at work with classes, projects and exams. It is a busy time of the year, and students can be found studying in almost every building on campus.
Where each student studies depends on the person and their preferences for a work environment, but there are some favorite spots among the college students at UWL.

Wittich Hall’s renovations were completed five years ago, and it reopened as the hub for UWL’s College of Business Administration. However, the study space in the basement draws in students from all different majors to utilize the space.
UWL Student Taylor Wamboldt said, “If I’m studying by myself, I like to go to Wittich. I love it in there because it’s quiet, and they have the whiteboard tables. The whiteboard tables are awesome!”
Whiteboards can be found in Murphy Library, too. The second floor of the building is reserved for quiet, individual study, but the first floor of the library is great for studying in a group, which is Wambolt’s go to spot if she is studying with her friend and fellow student, Jacey Pryce.
“We study all the time together here [at the library],” Wambolt said. “We use the study rooms up on the second floor of the library, too, and those are super nice. We like those a lot.”
Murphy Library’s group study rooms can be reserved through Outlook or in person on the pads outside the rooms. This gives students a private space to study that is quiet and free of distractions.
According to UWL Student Jasmine Neumann, another quiet space to study is the Prairie Springs Science Center.

“Prairie Springs is my favorite,” Neumann said. “It’s usually quiet, and I like all of the windows. A lot of natural light wakes me up and makes me feel motivated.”
The Student Union also brings in natural light with its large windows on every level. Viktoria Gustafsson, another UWL student, has a favorite study spot near the large windows in the COVE, which is located on the second floor of the Union.
“My favorite study space is the COVE. I just feel like it’s really great with these windows. It’s so open,” Gustafsson said. “If I have to study for an exam, I come really early, and you can see the sunrise. It’s so pretty, and you can see the bluff. They make it so welcoming with all of the plants and everything.”
The second floor of the Union is her favorite, so if she isn’t studying in the COVE, she is sitting in the chairs by the large windows near the Bluffs Ballroom.
The second and third floors of the Union are quieter than the first floor, but for someone that needs a busier space, the first floor has plenty of tables and chairs, as well.
“If I need to be somewhere busy that’s not here [the library] I’ll go to the Union in the area with the fireplace. I like it over there,” said Wamboldt.
There are plenty of other spaces on campus where students can study, so if you need to get out of your room to concentrate, there’s always a spot for you on campus.
