The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse continued their winning streak Wednesday Feb. 11 at Mitchell Hall with an 86-78 victory over University of Wisconsin-Stout, marking the Eagles’ sixth straight win. UWL opened the game strong, soaring ahead to a 12-3 lead by scoring the first seven points of the game. UW-Stout gained more points with 13:35 left on the score board (16-9) with a layup from AJ Uttech.
UWL’s Sam Grieger scored four points and an additional two came from JJ Paider extending their lead to 22-9 with a remaining time of 10:02 on the clock. UW-Stout cut the lead to 22-16 after two dunks by Aidan Shore.
With 2:57 remaining in the first half, UWL maintained their control with a layup by JJ Paider making the score 41-29. In the end of the first half UW-Stout decreased the lead, leaving the score of the first half 41-36.
UW-Stout continued their push to close the point gap with a layup from Collin Vick and a three-pointer from Wesley Mboga (45-43). A layup from Dustin Derousseau put UWL in a larger lead of 53-47 with 15:13 left on the clock. UW-Stout responded with an 8-0 run at the 13:00 mark, and took their first lead of the night, 55-53. Dustin Derousseau answered by scoring the next nine points for UWL, putting the Eagles ahead 62-55.
A three-pointer from Ben Goedheer stretched the lead to 72-66, followed by an additional two free throws by Jack Crowley and finally a three-pointer by Dustin Derousseau making the lead 77-66. The final score of the game was 86-78 as UWL continued to stay ahead of UW-Stout.
